Mary Jane Puryear Brown, 90, of Clairton, departed this life Saturday, March 31, 2012, in the Jefferson Regional Medical Center. She was born Aug. 9, 1921, in Jefferson, the daughter of the late John Sr. and Ida Mae Smith Puryear. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John I. Brown; children, Albert, James, John I. III, Cindy May and Terry Brown; and siblings, Irene Thomas, Myrtle Foreman, Hattie Jones and Blanche Puryear. She worked as a foster grandparent for the Allegheny County Intermediate Unit and also worked with the Allegheny County Social Services. She loved her community and was involved in many community groups, such as, the Socialite's Club, Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion, former Cub Scout leader and boy's club leader, playground teacher at Blair Heights, the Tele-A-Peer senior phone calling service and she loved bingo. She was a longtime faithful member of First African Methodist Episcopal Church, where she will be truly missed.
