Edwin L. Stieg served in the 22nd Marine regiment during World War II. After graduating from Texas A&M in Civil Engineering (Class of '45) he worked as a structural engineer for the Texas Highway Department, completing projects for Central Expressway and bridges in Dallas. He was also employed by Lone Star Steel mill for A.J. Boynton Engineering. He served for three years as City Engineer in Garland. Mr. Stieg spent 25 years working for Exxon in Venezuela, Libya, Australia, and Malaysia. After retirement from Exxon, he was an offshore platform installation consultant to the National Oil Company of Malaysia. In addition to his career, Mr. Stieg dedicated himself to a life of service. He was a president of the Dallas Chapter of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers. He was interim pastor in a family church in an oil camp in Libya. After he retired, he served as an elder in his Presbyterian church and as president of the Exxon-Mobil retirees club as well as meeting with San Antonio's water policy group.

Ed was married to his beloved wife, Hilda, for 66 years. She preceded him in death in 2011. Survivors include a daughter, Dr. Donna Stieg Wasson, a son, Steven L. Stieg, as well as two granddaughters, Claire Stieg and Anne Stieg, and one grandson, Todd M. Wasson. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco, Texas.
