He also enlisted in Chambersburg March 3, 1864, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg April 4 as a private with Battery C, 2nd Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery (112th Pa), and honorably discharged with his battery July 21, 1865.
He marred Anna Ellen Gelwicks and, in 1900, lived in Chambersburg. Children, if any, have not been found. The family name was spelled a variety of ways, including "Ditzler" and "Deitzler."
