Rev. Menno N. Amstutz, 65, Dies At Pandora, Ohio

Funeral Wednesday for Native of Berne; Pandora Pastor

Rev. Menno N. Amstutz, 65, a native of Berne, pastor of the Missionary Church at Pandora, Ohio, the last five years, died unexpectedly at 9:05 a.m. Sunday at his home in Pandora. Death was attributed to coronary thrombosis. Rev. Amstutz had eaten his breakfast shortly before the fatal attack.

Rev. Amstutz had not been well since last September when he suffered a heart attack. He had been unable to fill the pulpit since then and the Pandora Church had a supply pastor of the present. However, Rev. Amstutz was able to be up and around.

In the ministry for 40 years, Rev. Amstutz had filled pulpits at Waneta, Nebraska, Peoria, Illinois, Auburn, Royal Oak, Michigan and Pettisville, Ohio, before going to Pandora. He was born here Aug. 31, 1891 and was the son of John and Mary Nussbaum Amstutz. He was married to Jessie Pritchard who preceded in death and later he married Rilla Klopfenstein, who survives.

Also surviving are the following children: Rev. Pritchard Amstutz, Modesto, Calif., formerly pastor of the First Missionary Church in Berne; Rev. Tilman Amstutz, Humboldt, Tenn.; Blanchard Amstutz, Wayne, Mich., and Mrs. Marilyn Gerig, Decatur. Carolyn Amstutz, daughter of Omen Amstutz of this place is being reared in the Rev. Amstutz home. Eight grandchildren survive, also two brothers, Rev. Tilman Amstutz, missionary in India and Omen Amstutz, Berne; and two sisters, Miss Elda Amstutz, missionary in India and Mrs. Martha Heller, Elkton, Mich.

The body is at the Haas Funeral Home in Pandora where friends may call. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Pandora Missionary Church. Burial will be at Leo.
