Rites Held At Wallonia Wednesday For Beloved Aged Citizen
Death came to Mrs. Jennie Haydon Larkins, 84, Monday evening, August 21 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W H Rawls on West Main Street where she had been residing for a number of years.
She had been in poor health for the past year and had been a patient at Jennie Stuart Hospital recently, but had been home some two or three weeks.
The daughter of William Clinton and Eliza Robertson Haydon, the deceased was born December 20, 1865, in Trigg County. On December 16, 1886, she was married to Henry Frank Larkins who preceded her in death May 17, 1922. There were ten children born to this union, eight of whom survive. They were, Mrs. L I Martin and Carter Larkins, both deceased: Mrs. C H Husk, Elkton, Mrs. G E Miller, Roaring Spring, Mrs. W H Rawls, city; Mrs. Alene Turner, Cerulean, F D Larkins, Hopkinsville; Mrs. Olin C Flora, Kinksport, Tenn., Albert E Larkins and Mrs. C M Rascoe, Trigg County.
Other survivors are 19 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Grace Ritchie of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Mrs. Larkins' character was built upon sincere goodness, gentleness and of Christian service to her community. Having a wide circle of friends who esteemed and loved her in her old neighborhoods of Cerulean and Wallonia, as well as those she made while residing in Cadiz.
In young girlhood, she united with Blue Spring Baptist Church and later became a charter member of the Wallonia Baptist Church.
A brief funeral service was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Rawls at 1:30 Wednesday afternoon before leaving for the Baptist church in Wallonia, where services were held, with Rev. Shirley Spahr, pastor of the Cadiz Baptist church, assisted by Rev. Robert Shaver and Rev. Roscoe Noel. Burial was made in the Wall cemetery near Wallonia with Mitchell and Campbell in charge.
Pallbearers were Charles and Frank Miller, L I Martin, Jr., Billy Rawls, Jr., Dabney Rascoe and Hugh Garrett Martin, grandsons.
Flower girls were Misses Carol Larkins, Lela Katherine Haydon, Manthis Martin, and Bess Jackson, Mrs. William McAtee, Mrs. Billy Rawls, Jr., Mrs. L I Martin, Jr., Mrs. Kenneth Stewart, Mrs. Jas. Hayes and Mrs. Frank Miller.
Among those from a distance here for the funeral were her only sister, Mrs. Alvin Ritchie and Mr. Ritchie of Cincinnati, Ohio, and a nephew, Carl Turner of Indianapolis, Indiana.
