Mrs. Bede Carver of Coffee County has a CSA pension application on line . She says she married Allen Carver on Sept 14, 1865. He enlisted in Spring 1862 in Wayne County, GA and served with Company E of the 4th GA Cavalry. He was home on furlough at the surrender. His witness said that he and about 6 others were sent to the GA coast on guard duty. When they returned, their unit was gone. They waited 6 days before the soldier in charge told them to go home until sent for. No one knew where the unit went and no one ever sent for him. Then the war was over. Within the paperwork is a death application for Mrs. Bede Carver who died 4/22/1923. Her son, Vinson Carver, turned in bills for her coffin and another bill for various other debts to be paid out of her final pension.
