Elias Heck left Germany sometime in the 1870's before 1878 when he shows up in New Orleans.
By 1900 he and his second wife had moved on to Shehboygan, WI, around 1881. On 7 May, 1878 his wife Justine Milder or Mulder gives birth to a son Frank at 220 Laurel St in New Orleans. Both he and Justine are listed as German-born on Frank's birth record, with Elias listed as a wheelwright. Family history indicates two other children previously born to Elias; a Peter born in the early 1870s and a Margeretta born 30 June, 1874 in either Germany OR New Orleans.
Elias Heck turns up again in the New Orleans 1880 census, this time with his second wife, Catherine Heck (nee STAUDER), but his name is listed as Ellis, not Elias, on the census record and this time with two children; Peter said to have been born about 1872 in Germany and Frank born 1878 in New Orleans. There is no mention of Margeretta. His occupation is again listed as a wheelwright.
From these two records it is assumed that Elias brought his first wife from Germany (the Mulder, especially Milder, name is mostly prevalent in the Alsace province of France and the Pfalz area to the north of France in Bavaria) but nothing more about her in known. From these records it is also assumed that Justine died in New Orleans between 1878 and 1800.
