Harold was born the son of Clarence E. & Maud Logan Benson. He graduated from the Harris High School in 1924 and attended Simpson College at Indianola and Iowa State University. He was married to Alice Thayer on June 21, 1936 at Oakland, CA. He farmed in the Harris area until his death. Harold was a member of the Harris United Methodist Church and had served as chairman of the official board, chairman of the pastoral relations committee, & trustee and lay leader. Harold had served on the County Extension Council, the Ocheyedan Cooperative Elevator board and was clerk of Allison Township from 1966-1980. He was a member of the Harris Community School Board and charter member of the Osceola Community Hospital Board.
Harold & Alice are the parents of Robert (Tanya) Benson, Harold (Evelyn) Benson, & Jeri (John) Good.
Harold's siblings include a sister, Ruth of Harris.
