Harold "Bud" Benson was born October 27,1940 in Worthington MN to Harold Logan Benson and Alice (Thayer) Benson and grew up on his family's farm near Harris, graduating from Harris Schools in 1959, after school he worked as a lake patrol officer at Black Hawk Lake in Lakeview, Iowa, and later joined the U.S. Navy in 1963 and served until 1966 with the Navy Seabees and aboard several Ice breakers including the USS Staten Island and the USS Catabwa. He then returned to Iowa and started farming with his father.

Bud was united in marriage November 29th, 1974 to Evelyn (Deutschmann) Jerousek. He served on the COOP Oil board and various other area boards. Retiring from farming in 1995, he spent a few years delivering motor homes all over the country for Morgan Driveaway and later bought a Semi as an owner operator and continued his love of the open road. When he came off the road he drove for D&K Transportation until he fell while rock hunting (another of his hobbies) and became unable to work.
He was preceded in death by his Parents Harold and Alice (Thayer) Benson, and an infant brother.
