Delores "Dee" (Bayes) Shimmin, age 67 of Pensacola, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 31, 2012. Dee was involved with Christian education all of her adult life. She started out as a kindergarten teacher and worked for A Beka Book for 28 years, where she wrote and contributed to numerous Christian text-books. Retired for the last five years, she was able to enjoy her 12 grandchildren, especially at large Christmas family gatherings.
She is preceded in death by her father, Herschel Bayes.
She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Stan Shimmin; her four children, Raylene Cochran (Scott), Randi Jones (Michael), Marty Shimmin (Valerie), and Meggan Grosnick (Erik); grandchildren, Kenneth Cochran, Justin Jones, Lauren Cochran, Camden Jones, Gavin Jones, Carstan Cochran, Jaden Shimmin, Gabriel Shimmin, Samantha Grosnick, Elaina Shimmin, Logan Shimmin, and Addisyn Grosnick; mother May Bayes; her twin sister, Dorothy Blankers (Daryl) and her sister Shirley Mulka (Dave).
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m., Thursday, April 5, 2012, at Rawson Chapel with Pastor Denis McBride officiating and Dr. Mullenix giving the eulogy.
The family will receive friends at Rawson Chapel from 4-6 p.m. before the memorial service.
