I know that the birth date I listed does not match his headstone, but it does match the passenger list records. Also, a birth date of 1844 makes more sense in regards to the ages of his siblings. His Obituary gives his birth as the 24th (not the 29th as on the headstone) of October in 1844. But the obituary also says that he was 8 when he arrived in this country, and he was actually 5, about to turn 6, in 1850. The newspaper obit is from the Houston Daily Post publication date June 1, 1902.

He was doing poorly, and so had traveled to Mineral Wells, Texas to recover. He died while still in Mineral Wells, and his body was shipped back home for burial.

He was born in the small town of Wentdorf near Prignitz.
