She was born in Wentdorf, Prignitz, Brandenburg, Germany.

Her father was Johann Malitz. He had traveled to Texas several times before. He first came to Texas in 1834 and built a fine house in Harrisburg, Texas. This house was burnt to the ground by Santa Anna's army right before the battle of San Jacinto.

The last name of Malitz seemed to have been spelled every which way. On the ship passenger list of 1950 he spells his name Milatz. Our family records spell it Malitz, and there were other spellings used as well.

Elisabeth married Frederick Nicolaus Heineke 1809 – 1881 in Germany. Their first child together was born in Wittenberge, Prignitz, Brandenburg, Germany:

Fredericke Sophie Elisabeth 1839-1915 (married F.A. Engelke)

They then moved back to the city of her birth, Wentdorf and had the following children:

Ferdinand E 1842-?

Sophie 1843-?

Friedrich 1844-1902 (married first to Caroline Elisabeth Lehmann then Marie Langhammer)

Albertine 1845-1930 (married C. Asbeck)

The family then moved to Texas, accompanied by Elisabeth's father, Johann Malitz. The family first traveled to San Felipe in Austin County where two children were born:

August 1854-1931 (married Maria Katharina Hoffman)

Elisabeth Sarah 1856-1898 (married J. H. Els)

I do not know where their last child, Lisette 1857-? was born, but they had settled in Cat Springs in Austin County by 1860. In this census, the father of F. N. Heineke is living with them.

When Elisabeth Sarah married J. H. Els on 27 June 1883 at 27 years of age, her father had been dead two years. The Els family had settled in Washington County near Washington-on-the-Brazos, and this is where the newlyweds made their home. Since her mother was now a widow, Elisabeth Malitz Heineke went with her daughter and new husband to Washington-on-the-Brazos.

The entire family (Els as well as the mother-in-law) were founding members of the Friedens Church in Washington County. However, they were not buried in the Church's cemetery, but rather in Hope Cemetery which must have been a family cemetery.
