Henry was born and raised in and around Berrysburg, PA. He was the oldest son of George Franklin and Clara Agnes (Eby) Mace. He became an orphan at age 11 when his parents both died from typhoid fever. He married on June 3, 1908 in Philadelphia to Maude E Phillips. They had no children. He died at his home on Church Lane in the Germantown section of Philadelphia.
