Mrs. H. Walk of Minneapolis died Monday at Bayfield. The remains were brought here for interment, the funeral being held at the M. E. church here this forenoon. The deceased formerly lived in Elroy. Her maiden name was Mattie Pierce. She was a sister of Major Pierce, an old time express messenger, who a number of years ago discovered and secured the capture of a burglar who was shipped here in an express car as a corpse.
Miss Mattie Pierce was born Aug. 4, 1867, in Logansville, Wis., moved to Elroy when about 12 years of age where she was married to Mr. Walk Dec. 24, 1885. With him she moved to Altoona and thence to Minneapolis in which city they have made their home for some time. About a year and half ago Mrs. Walk became afflicted with a sickness that defied the best medical skill that could be found and which has just resulted in her demise, while temporarily located at Bayfield whither she had gone for recuperation.
Her father and mother have both preceded her into the other world. Her father being the first person whose funeral services were held in this church and her mother about 9 years ago. She is survived by her husband who has graciously ministered to her, three sisters, Mrs. Lake of Reedsburg, Mrs. Puffer and Mrs. Turner of Minneapolis, also one brother who has recently gone to Texas, besides a large circle of friends some of whom came to be with us on this trying occasion.
