Herbert H. Allen, died suddenly on Friday, Oct. 17, 2008, in Dorchester General Hospital, Cambridge. He was 79. Born Nov. 15, 1928 in Wye Mills, one of 15 children of the late, Bennett Cleveland Allen and Mary Harrington Allen. He grew up in Wye Mills and attended Centreville High School, and then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with five bronze stars and the distinguished Unit Citation. Following his release from active duty he returned to Wye Mills and worked on the family farm until he married Hazel Bernice Suffan. They lived in Grasonville, where he worked for Greenspring Dairy in Baltimore for 20 years. Their marriage ended in divorce. Herbert later married Mary Kay Perkins. Mary Kay died in 2001. He then worked for the Queen Anne's County Roads for 20 years, retiring as a supervisor. He was an avid rabbit hunter and gardener, and was a member of the American Legion in Queenstown and Cambridge. He was a 30 year member of the Bay Country Moose Lodge in Queenstown, and the VFW Post 7464, in Grasonville. Mr. Allen is survived by a daughter, Sylvia Elizabeth Allen Voshell of Millington; brother, Michael S. Allen of Annapolis; sister, Greta Allen Towers of Caroline County; and two grandchildren, Matthew Voshell and Adam Voshell.
