Samuel Gossett, of Alert, Ind., Mrs. Cora Mershon and Mrs. Lilly Luba, of Columbus, C.A. Gossett and son Harley, Frank Pomert and wife and daughters Hazel and Maud, and son Harry, Frank E. Gossett and wife and daughters Inez, Pearl and Ruth, and Mr. and Mrs. Holliday, of Greenfield, attended the funeral of Mrs. Malinda Gossett here last
Friday.

Mrs. Malinda Gossett, whose maiden name was McCoy, was born March 20th, 1822, in the northwest corner of Paint township, Highland county, Ohio. Her parents afterwards moved to the vicinity of Sugartree Ridge and there on the 25th day of November, 1844, she was united in marriage with Joseph Ambrose Gossett, whose companionship she enjoyed till the 4th day of May 1885, when he peacefully passed to his reward. Of the 10 children born to them the following are living: Mrs. Sarah C. Scott of Columbus, O., Jas. G. of Lindsey, Wis., Samuel A. of Alert, Ind., Frank E. and Mrs. Minnie Pomert of Greenfield. The members of her father's family who survive are David McCoy of Greenup county, Ky.,Mrs. Lois Igo of Sugartree Ridge, and Mrs. Celia Cook of Cincinnati, O.

Mrs. Gossett probably resided in Rainsboro more consecutive years than any other citizen except aunt Evaline Brown, and therefore needs no words of mine in setting forth her upright life, her devotion to her family and friends, her kindness to her neighbors, her sympathy with the sorrowing, her ministrations to the afflicted and her generosity to the poor and needy.

We have no record at hand to determine when she united with the M.E. Church, but looking through her bible since her death a quarterly love feast ticket was found, dated Dec. 2, 1855, setting forth the fact that she was then a member of the M.E. Church and signed by rev. Gatch as her
pastor.

Since the death of her husband, and especially since the last one of her children was married and left the parental home, her life has been a lonely one, but she accepted the situation with resignation, and notwithstanding the perplexing cares of life and the increasing infirmities of age she has doubtless been as cheerful and hopeful as the
varied circumstances surrounding would permit. For several years she has been spending the winter season with her children who wanted her to remain with them all the time, but she preferred to spend the summer in her old home. She had a family in part of the house, but had a room to herself. Last Wednesday she was apparently in good health and in the evening had company till near bedtime. On Thursday morning her step-son, J.L. Gossett, entered her apartment, and was astonished to find her dead.

Funeral services were held in the M.E. Church on Saturday and participated in by Rev.s H.G. Curless, J.H. Davis, C.L. Winget and J.I. Taggart.
