NEWPORT NEWS - Douglas N. Addington, 75, died on Monday, Jan. 8, 1996. He was born in Coeburn, Va., and was a Peninsula resident for 55 years.
He retired from State Farm Insurance Co. in 1985 after 30 years of service. He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church since 1946, serving as deacon, teacher and trustee. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was held as a prisoner of war in Germany for four months. He was a member of the Ex-Prisoner of War James L. Hale Memorial Chapter, Hampton.
He is survived by his wife, Estelle M. Addington of Newport News; one daughter, Jeanne Meeks of Surry; one son, Douglas N. Addington Jr. of Chesapeake; four sisters, Virginia Johnson of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., Juanita Grizzle of Tullahoma, Tenn., Mary Main of Charlottesville and Evelyn Baker of San Diego, Calif.; three brothers, Harold Addington of Sutherland, Jack Addington of Dallas, Texas, and the Rev. Charles Addington of Bluefield, Va.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, at Riverside Baptist Church by the Revs. Tommy Davidson and Bob Moberg. Burial with military honors will be in Peninsula Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Riverside Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Riverside Baptist Church Building Fund, 7409 River Road, Newport News, Va. 23607.
