Benita Mary, the first daughter of Pablo and Marcelina Becerra, was born August 23, 1935.
She was baptized and attended grade school at Holy Rosary Church, where she left school to help raise her siblings during her mother's illness and hospitalization.
In 1952, she married Dennis G. Merritt and they had six children.
She worked at Mead/Westab for 30 years.
She was very active at St. Patrick Catholic Church, School and Fiesta.
In 1981, she married Billy J. Peters, becoming mother to his seven children.
In 2008, she lost her daughter, Diana Lindsey to cancer and in 1991, her daughter Michelle Walts to a car accident. She was also preceded in death by her grandsons, Jeremy Lindsey, Tim Davis and Daniel Fattig; parents, Pablo and Marcelina; five brothers, Octavian Delgado, Leopolo Lopez, Leo, Raymond and Robert Becerra.
Survivors: husband, Billy J. Peters, of the home; her children, Paula Welsh (Mike), Dennis C. (Connie), Mark, Marvin (Cindy), Debbie (Larry), Mike (Tammy), Regina (Dalt), Kevin (Louise), Rod (Colleen), Billy (Jane) and Valorie (Kermitt); 30 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren, who were her pride and joy; four brothers, Charles Becerra (Kay), Stephen Becerra (Gerry), Paul Becerra (Linda) and Tom Becerra (Judy); three sisters, Lena Gilkey (Joe), Lola Sprague (Mike) and Mary Wright; sisters-in-law, Freda and Leona Becerra; two aunts, Hope Martinez and Margaret Jones; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins that she thought the world of throughout her life.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10 a.m. Tuesday, St. Patrick Catholic Church. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. There will be a Parish Rosary 5:30 p.m. Monday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory, where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.
