SHEEPMAN FOUND DEAD ON HAY STACK

Another sudden death brought sorrow to Tooele last Friday when the body of Arthur James, age 49, was found on top of a ay stack, two miles northwest of Tooele, with death apparently due to heart failure.

Mr. James had left his home on Second West street about 10 o’clock Friday morning to secure a load of hay for his sheep and when he did not return at the allotte4d time, his folks became worried and Dale James, age 15, a nephew, was sent out to locate him.

The young lad found his uncle dead on top of the stack and the team standing patiently to be driven away. The body was found about 5 o’clock.

An investigation conducted by Sheriff Evans and Deputy Smith with the aid of a physician disclosed that Mr. James’ death had taken place about 2:30 o’clock and was due to heart failure.

Mr. James was unmarried and had been engaged in the sheep business with his brother, Williams, for the past 30 years.

He was born in Tooele July 7, 1881, the son of Dan James and Love Peasnal James, and has resided here his entire life. His father and the following brothers and sisters survive: William James, James James, Roy James, Clyde James, Mrs. Mary Stewart, Mrs. Frank Frailey, Mrs. Lewis Gunther, and Mrs. William Mortenson. All reside in Tooele except Clyde who lives in Salt Lake City.

Funeral service for Arthur James was held in the North Ward Chapel Tuesday at 2 o’clock with Bishop John C. Bryan in charge. The choir was directed by Erb Johnson with Mrs. Bertha Tate at the organ.

The church was filled to capacity with friends and loved ones of the deceased. The floral offerings were profuse. The choir gave three appropriate selections, a violin solo was played by Brant Caldwell, accompanied by Miss Roxie Lee and a vocal solo was given by Erb Johnson, accompanied by Mrs. Mabel Isgren.

Speakers at the service were Matthew Speirs and Willard G. Atkin. The invocation was by A.G. Gowans and the benediction by Alma J. De La Mare.

At the Tooele cemetery where the interment took place, the grave was dedicated by Peter Clegg. The local branch of the Deseret Mortuary was in charge of the remains and services.
