Tony, the first of 12 children, was born July 25, 1914, on his parents' farm, near Solen. He was raised in that area, and went to farm school for his education. He married Rose Schwengler on Oct. 18, 1938, and they had their own farm for 21 years.

Aside from two of his own children, Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Rose (Wetzstein); his brothers, Adam (Veronica Geiger), Mandan, Mike (Margaret Zeigler) and Lawrence (Irene Hatzenbuhler), all of Bismarck, and Frank (Loretta Staudinger, deceased), Seattle; and a sister, Elizabeth (John Stoltz), Bismarck.
