ATTORNEY
John Henderson was 85 years old when he died at his home in outside San Francisco in 1946. He had resided in the Bay area for decades and was an early member of the city's legal community.
He was born in Ontario, Canada and emigrated with his parents first to North Dakota then to Minnesota where he completed his legal studies at the University of Minnesota. He apprenticed with an experienced lawyer, William Allen, in St. Paul, Minnesota. There he developed real estate expertise and specialized in real estate syndication. He married that same lawyer's only daughter, Irene Allen and joined his in-laws as they resettled to the milder climates of the San Francisco area before 1900. There he enjoyed a long and successful law career with the firm of Allen and Henderson, retiring after a fifty year membership in the California Bar. He lived there through the trauma of the great San Francisco earth quake and witnessed the dramatic growth of the city.
