"Born 1864 in Kintore, Ontario, youngest daughter of Robert and Hester Alderson Henderson, she attended schools in nearby St. Marys, Perth Co. At the age of 26 she married "local boy" William Stinson there on April 6, 1890. The couple first lived in St. Marys where William worked in a local dry goods store, then moved West.
They lived in St. Thomas, Pembina Co. ND where William had his own dry goods store in the then booming Dakota territories. They moved several times during the next years and finally came to Minneapolis, where they lived in a series of homes, each bigger than the last, reflecting William's growing prosperity. William had interests in several dry goods stores around Minnesota and the Dakotas and was a sales agent for several producers.
William registered patents for several gas-fueled household lamps. He was often "on the road" by rail visiting his far-flung stores. Mary meanwhile cared for her family of four children. She was an ardent Methodist and active in church and missionary activities. Known for her gregarious and sociable nature, she and her sister Frances Ann were close companions and participated in many activities together.
Unfortunately, Mary's health began to fail in 1915 after a bout of pneumonia (according to family letters) and she died June 8, 1916."
