Matthew Pentico was born in Jasper County, Iowa, Sept. 18, 1865 and departed
this life, October 6, 1927, after a siege of sickness which lasted for twelve
years. He was 62 years, and 19 days of age at the time of his death.
He came to Republic County, Kansas with his parents in November, 1869 and grew
to manhood on the old homestead, northwest of Agenda.
He was united in marriage to Miss Martha Klaumann of Cuba, Kansas, Nov. 26,
1892. To this union were born three children, two sons and one daughter, which
were all at his bedside at the time of his death.
For the last fourteen years he has lived with his family on their farm,
southeast of Agenda.
He was faithful up to the very last and seemed to pass away in comfort and
peace.
He leaves to mourn his departure, the wife, Mrs. Martha Pentico and his
children, Ralph, Earl and Ethel; three sisters, Sarah Thompson of Iowa,
Henrietta Young of Agenda and Martha Lewellen of Oklahoma; three brothers,
Richard and Walter Pentico of Oregon and George Pentico of Agenda. Also a host
of other relatives and friends and will be missed by all who knew him.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. John Hope of Miltonvale at Agenda,
Sunday afternoon and the remains were laid to rest in the Manning cemetery.
