Suggested edit: I'm about 100% sure he wasn't born before his parents married (which was 1783). His older brother George was in-fact born in 1784, this can be proven through census records, as well as other records. In 1810, William claimed to be between ages 16 to 25, George claimed to age 26 or over in the census record that year. Also, I can't find any actual records that prove or state that he, or his brother George, had served in the War of 1812, I can find no proof at all, at least for William; George's descendants actually claim it through family histories, but again, there's no records of this taking place. I'm more than happy to send you the census pages from 1810 that show Bill claiming to be under age 26 and George claiming to be age 26 or over. It would make sense to me anyway, that William wasn't born before his parent's marriage took place. If anything George would be under that suspicion, being born from 1783 to 1784.

Suggested edit: I'm not sure how a death record (filled out by someone else after his death, he'd been dead for 2-3 days) is more accurate information than the 1810 census when he was asked how old he was and stated that he was age 16 to 25. So no older than age 25, this is earliest 'birthdate' we have for him. Not only that but I have found him as a taxable male (age 16 and over) in Virginia in the year 1802, meaning that before 1801/1802 he was under age 16, something are definitely more accurate than what his wife or children said to the Coroner after his death, the most wrong dates I have seen came from headstones, the second from death records, both of which were done after the death had occurred. I seriously doubt that William was born in 1783, his birth day is in July - Samuel Allen and Sarah Prater married in September of 1783. All of this is factual and I do have evidence to back this all up and I'm more than willing to share it with you and anyone else that would question anything. In 1810 William's brother George Allen is listed as age 26 and/or over that age. This would mean George was born in 1784 or earlier, of course we know he was born in 1784, and not before the marriage took place between his parents. Again, William was asked his age in 1810 and he said age 16-25, which means he was born sometime from 1785 to 1794, I personally believe wholly that this is best you'll get besides going back to the Virginia Tax Records and see when they started taxing Samuels two boys George and William, George showed up a year before William in tax records, about the time they would've turned 16, to which is the years 1800 and 1801, respectively. William was in-fact at-least one year younger than George, which means he was born in 1785 or 86. I've been researching this family for 12 years now, there's a lot of mis-leading information out there on this family, I'm looking to correct it. People had Samuel and Sally Prater Allen having 10, or even 14 or more children; in reality they had 7 known children, and only they can even be remotely connected to the above listed couple besides Jonathan, by court record; and William and their sister Elizabeth Allen Patton, both by their respective death records. The rest are assumed to be children by association.
