Jacob Brantley Ouzts was born September 20, 1831 in Edgefield County, South Carolina. His parents were George and Frances Timmerman Ouzts. He was the youngest of five children. Jacob married Decila Ann Harling on November 11, 1856. They had three children, Nathaniel, Ida and Felix. Jacob was a member of the 19th South Carolina Volunteer Infantry, Co. C during the Civil War. He was killed in the Battle of Stones River in Murphreesboro, TN. He is buried in the Confederate Circle of Heroes Cemetary in an unmarked grave.
