Joseph came to the US at about 16 years old and settled in Maple Lake, MN with parents and siblings. He met Elizabeth Bentler and married her in in 1899. They moved to Warroad, then Randall, and eventually ended up in International Falls, while producing 9 children along the way. Joseph began working for Mando (Minnesota & Ontario Paper Co) the largest corporation in MN at the time. Joseph suffered a stroke in 1944, and died 8 years later.
