Fertile, Jan. 17-Mrs. L.O. Sanderson, one of the pioneer woman of Northwood Iowa, passed away at her home in this village at 10:30 Thursday morning at the age of 81 years.
Mrs. Sanderson was born in Norway, and at the age of four emigrated with her parents to America, settling at Blue Mounds, Wis., where she grew to woman hood and taught in the public school for a number of years.
She was married to L.O. Sanderson in 1862. In 1876 they emigrated to Iowa settling in Grant Township, Cerro Gordo County, where she continued to live until six years ago, when, with her husband they built a fine house in town and settled down to enjoy the fruits of their labor. Soon after moving to town her husband, a man of influence, passed away.
Mrs. Sanderson was a mother to eleven children, nine who survive her, six daughters, Mrs. G. Rye, Mrs. Geo. Whitts, Mrs. John Ward, Mrs. David Strunk, Mrs. Palmer, Mrs. C.D. Bucklin; three sons, Lewis ,Sandy and G. Oliver, together with 35 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
A daughter Mrs.J.F. Tibbs died about 25 years ago, one son died in infancy.
Mrs. Sanderson was a member of the Lutheran Church and was active in missionary and charitable work of all kinds.
The funeral was held Saturday at the Lutheran Church, conducted by her pastor, Rev.Hjelmeland,and was attended by a large number of neighbors and friends. Interment at Brush Point Cemetery beside her late husband.
