Louie was the oldest of seven children. After graduating from Montana State College (now MSU) with a degree in electrical engineering, Louis worked for the Lovelace Motor Supply in Helena.

He married his first wife, Billie Jean McLaren, in Helena, 14 November 1940, in St. Peter's Episcopal pro-cathedral. Later that evening, they boarded a train and moved to Wilkinsburg, PA, where Louis started his long career with the Westinghouse Electric Company.

They moved to Buffalo in 1950 and he retired in 1975 after 35 years of service with Westinghouse. Sadly, after nearly 40 years of marriage, Billie Jean died in October, 1980.

While living in Buffalo, he raised Evergreen trees on his property in the Town of Birdsall. He was actively involved in community activities in Birdsall and served on the finance committee of his retirement community in Tampa, Fla.

Louis was married to his second wife, Mary Gail (Fiske) Andersen, for 21 years at the time of his death. Louis was survived by wife Mary Gail (d. 2012); sisters Eleanor (d. 2011) and Jean (d. 2011); brother James (d.2008); sons William and Robert (d. 2004); and 4 stepchildren.

In addition to his first wife, Billie Jean, Louis was preceded in death by 3 of his sisters: Katherine, Polly, and Martha.

A memorial service was held at the Garwoods United Methodist Church in Garwoods, where he was a member.
