Dr. Joseph Kirkland McNutt was born at Blandford, Mass., July 6, 1852. He removed with his parents to Ohio in 1836, living for a few years in Lenox. In 1842 he came to Eagleville, where he has since resided. He became converted when a young man and joined the Disciple church at Rock Creek. He was a faithful and devoted worker in the Sunday school and prayer meeting and will be greatly missed from both places. He was married to Elizabeth Griffith December 10, 1850, who only lived a short time. To them was born a daughter; Mrs. Emma Powers of Ferry, Mich. He married Susannah Bartholomew December 26, 1852 a daughter who died in infancy and one son being the result of the union. He was one of the best citizens and businessmen of the place, being an excellent dentist, and serving faithfully for a long time as postmaster. The wife, daughter, Mrs. Powers, son, John F of Lansing, Mich., and an adopted daughter Mrs. Mary Fetch of this place, besides a host of relatives and friends, remain to miss one who was kind and affectionate, especially fond of children and altogether a thoroughly good man. He died Friday morning, August 15 after suffering a third shock of paralysis about a week previous. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the late home. Rev Dr. Burt of Jefferson officiating. Interment was made in the local cemetery.
