The following January 3, 1928, Lowell Tribune article appeared on page 4, column 2:
John W. Ault was born at Lowell, Ind., June 4, 1867. His father was John A. Ault and his mother was Abigail Thorn Ault. He was one of a family of seven children, four boys and three girls. All of his brothers and one sister have preceded him in death. They were Jay Ault, Edward Ault and Fred Ault, brothers, and Mrs. Horace Johnson, a sister. Two of his sisters, Mrs. Thomas Powell, of Lowell, Ind., and Mrs. Frank Field, of East Chicago, Ind., survive him. When Mr. Ault was two years old, his father with his family moved from Lowell to Yates Center, Kansas. After living in the west for a number of years, Mr. Ault's father returned to Lowell to live. It was here that he became acquainted with and married Mary Kolb, a daughter of Henry Kolb and Polly Graves Kolb, of Sherburnville, Ill. They were married in West Creek township, Lake county, Indiana, by the Rev. Hiram P. Wason on Sept. 20, 1893, at which time Mr. Ault was 26 years old. To this union there were born three children, Mrs. Vida Grace Peterson, of Herscher, Ill., Arthur Ray Ault, and Kieth Ault, of Whiting, Ind. Arthur Ray Ault departed this life on August 25, 1927. Mr. Ault leaves as the survivors of his own immediate family, Mrs. Mary Ault, his wife, and his daughter and son, Vida Grace Peterson and Kieth Ault. Mr. Ault grew to manhood and received his early education in Yates Center, Kansas. At the age of 18 years, while living in Yates Center, he embraced the Christian religion and joined the Baptist church of that place. About the year 1899, after moving back to Lowell, he with others of his brothers and sisters, united with the Christian church of Lowell. After moving to Whiting he, with the members of his own family, united with the Congregational church of Whiting and he has been an active member of this church ever since. Mr. Ault first became a resident of Whiting in the fall of 1907, and in 1913 he moved to his farm near Sherburnville and engaged in farming until the spring of 1923 when he again became a resident of Whiting. He has maintained his residence in his own home at No 239 Sheridan Ave. ever since. He passed away from this life at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 22, 1928. Although he had been in poor health for some time, he was feeling reasonably well of late. The immediate cause of his death was acute heart trouble. His age at the time of his death was 61 years, 6 months and 18 days. His sudden demise was a shock to his family and to the community. His family has lost a kind and loving father and husband and the community an honest, upright, Christian citizen. A prayer service was held at the home and the funeral services were held at the Congregational church at Whiting Wednesday, December 26. Interment was made in the family lot in Lowell cemetery.
