William Edward Ault, one of the best known
and most highly esteemed men of this vicinity, died at St. Mary’s hospital in
Kankakee on Saturday evening. Mr. Ault had been in poor health for some time but
had managed to be about until a short time ago when he suffered from a severe
attack of appendicitis. He was taken to the hospital where he underwent an
operation, but his condition was so serious that but little hopes were
entertained for his recovery. He gradually grew worse, until death relieved him
of his sufferings. In the death of Mr. Ault the east end of the county loses one
of its best citizens. For many years he was one of the leading workers in the
Christian church at Sherburnville. He served as superintendent of the Sunday
school and was active in other branches of the church work. He was a man who
made friends on every hand and his word was as good as his bond.
Mr. Ault was
born May 8, 1870, at Woodson County, Kan., and moved to Lowell, Ind., when a
young man. He married Helen Koib at Lowell in 1894 and in 1912 they moved to
Momence. Aside from his wife he leaves three children Faye, at Hammond, Ind.;
Miss Audrie, residing at home; Mrs. Frank Ayres, West Brooklyn, Ill. He also
leaves two brothers and three sisters and two grandchildren.
The funeral was
held on Tuesday afternoon from the Christian church at Sherburnville and burial
was in the cemetery adjoining the church.
