Irvin K. Longenbach, 98, of Chillicothe died on Saturday, March 24, 2012, at 5:55 p.m. at Heritage Manor in Chillicothe.

He was born on Jan. 28, 1914, in Iowa, La., the son of Elmer R. and Winnie D. (Lyon) Longenbach. He married Eva Mae Bley in Shelbyville. She preceded him in death on March 3, 2011. He later married Ella Mae Doran; she preceded him in death in 1975.

He is survived by two children, Terry Longenbach of Chillicothe and Suzanne Stockton of Peoria; two stepsons, Jerry Doran of Austin, Texas, and Michael Doran of Scottsdale, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Kimberly (Doug) Kell of Nashville, Ill., Adam Longenbach of Chillicothe and Stephanie Stockton of Charleston, S.C.; and two great-grandchildren, Ryan Kell and Rachael Kell of Nashville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Clarence, Gordon and Owen; and one stepson, Bob.

Irv moved from Shelbyville to Chillicothe in 1943 to manage the Palace Theater and later became the first manager of the Town Theater. In the early 1950s, he went to work in Peoria at R.G. LeTourneau and retired from American Standard.

In 1949, he acquired his funeral director's and embalmer's license from the state of Illinois and worked for Weber Funeral Home in Chillicothe for more than 30 years, and then worked as a funeral director and embalmer for Bouton Funeral Home in Princeville.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Irv enjoyed his morning coffee with friends at the Track Inn and the doughnut shop. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe. The Rev. Ted Mitchell will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Chillicothe City Cemetery, with military rites conducted.

Memorials may be made to Rescue 33.
