Rachel graduated from Waterville High School in 1956 and received her associate degree from Thomas College in 1978. She loved traveling, and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Rachel was employed at Winslow Junior High as the secretary to the guidance counselor and worked at JCPenny, Waterville, as the customer service manager.
Rachel is survived by her husband of 54 years, Theodore "Ted" Hardy of Hermon; daughters, Beth Towers and her husband, John Derrick, and their children, Julia and Janelle, of Hermon and Leanne Gonzalez her husband, Orlando, and their children, April Pinder and Ceceili Simmens; five great-grandchildren, all of Naples, Fla.; and son, Bruce Hardy of Fontana, Calif. Rachel was predeceased by her mother, Inza Foster, who also died of Alzheimer's disease; and father, Floyd Foster.
A private graveside service will be held at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta. (Bangor Daily News posted 3/26/2012)
