Florence E. Arnold, 87, of Merrill Street, Clearfield, died Friday, July 4, 2003, at Clearfield Hospital.

Born Aug. 11, 1915, in Clearfield, she was a daughter of George Evans and Anna (Mumper) Evans.

She served as secretary for J. Edgar Hoover and retired as a secretary at the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., after 28 years of service.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Clearfield, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the American Association of Retired Persons and John Lewis Shade Post No. 6 American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by four nieces, Ruth Cromie of Drexel Hill, Patty Rowles of Hamilton, Mont., Thelma Falvo of Clearfield and Carol Leonard of Frenchville; four nephews, Harold Zimmerma of Hyde, Preston Evans and Richard Evans, both of Clearfield; and 13 great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jackson J. Arnold, whom she married Dec. 15, 1952, and who died March 18, 1972; five brothers, Charles, Leonard, David, Harold and Eugene Evans; and three sisters, Mildred Zimmerman, Ruth Evans and Mary Evans.

Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at The Bennett and Houser Funeral Home Inc., Clearfield, with the Rev. Michael G. Trimmer officiating.

Interment will be at Crown Crest Memorial Park.

Friends will be received from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the hour of services at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 121 S. Second St., Clearfield, PA 16830.
