BONHAM -- Funeral services for Perna Lee Shaffer, 86, of Bonham, were held Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 2 p.m. at Wise Funeral Home Chapel in Bonham with Lyn Holly, pastor of Boyd Baptist Church, officiating. Burial followed in the Leonard Cemetery. Shaffer passed away early Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at Wilson N. Jones Medical Center in Sherman.
Shaffer was born Nov. 28, 1916, in Leonard, the daughter of William Aaron Adcock and Maud Ethel Blackwell Adcock. She married Carl William Shaffer, Feb. 5, 1938, in Bailey and he preceded her death, June 9, 1996. Shaffer was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. Her parents; two brothers, Opal Willard Adcock and William "Bill" Adcock; and a sister, Ina Pearl Pechacek, preceded her in death.
Shaffer is survived by a son, Larry Shaffer and wife, Kaye, of Blue Ridge; daughter, Marie Harris and husband, Jim, of Bonham; sisters, Mary McNear of Bonham and Maudine Carey and husband, Gen. Richard Carey (retired), of Rockwall; six grandchildren, Brian Warren, Lyn Helsely, Mike Shaffer, Sheila Layne, Phillip Shaffer and Rodney Harris; five great-grandchildren, Kristan Helsley, Brooke Helsley, Blake Shaffer, Jake Helsley and Sal Mendez; and several nieces and nephews. Shaffers' nephews served as pallbearers.
