Samuel L. Carrow Jr.
He cared about his family, his country and his community and on March 23, 2012 Samuel L. Carrow, Jr., 86, of Carney's Point passed away.

Born in Bridgeton, Mr. Carrow was the son of Samuel & Ellen (Eyerman) Carrow. He had been a faithful member of Corpus Christi R.C. Church and had served his country in both the Second World War and Korean War aboard the destroyer escort USS Spangenberg, 1944-1946, and USS Corregidor, 1951-1952.

After being discharged, he began working at Mobil Oil in Paulsboro until he retired after thirty-eight years. He was a member of the VFW Post #8840 in Penns Grove, an active member of the YMCA and the Saint James Father's Club. Always thinking about others, he volunteered for many years driving cancer patients to their doctor's and treatment appointments. Sam was very proud to have served his country and throughout the years he continued to support the military and attend many reunions and functions that were put on by the NJ Destroyer Escort Chapter. During his down time, he enjoyed watching the Phillies or working in his garden but his greatest joy came from his grandchildren and great grandchildren and he cherished each and every moment with them. In addition to his family and friends, there were two others he always looked forward to seeing, Stephanie at Lapp's and Louise at the YMCA and finally, if you knew Sam you knew he loved telling stories to anyone who would listen.

He is survived by his daughters, Ann Hostetter and her husband Richard of Newark, Del., Helen "Ginny" Lowry and her husband William of Carney's Point and Patricia Lewin and her husband Alton of Tenn; grandchildren, Christopher Lowry, Erik Lowry, Richard S. Hostetter, Robert Lewin, Katherine Lewin and Virginia Thompson and great grandchildren, Veronica Lowry, Ethan Lowry, Evan Lowry, Robert Lewin, AJ Lewin, Tiffany Lewin, Tyler Lewin, and Ryan Mulherin, as well as many nieces and nephews who loved him. His wife Helen and siblings, John D. Carrow, Sr., George Carrow, William Carrow, Patrick Carrow, Joseph Carrow, Alice Palen and Barthie Hiles predeceased him.

A viewing will be held at the ADAMS FUNERAL HOME, 18 E. Maple Ave., Penns Grove, NJ 08069. The service will follow the morning viewing at the funeral home. Interment will take place at the Salem County Veterans Cemetery.
