George A. Carrow Sr., 92, of Millville died Sunday morning, July 31, 2011, at the Millville Center after an extended illness.
Born and raised in Carneys Point, he joined the U.S Army and served five years in the coastal artillery in Honolulu, Hawaii. Mr. Carrow spent the next 55 years in the Bridgeton area and then moved to Millville. He worked for Cross Transportation Co. of Bridgeton for 38 years and retired in 1978.He was a member of Teamsters Local No. 676. In his retirement, Mr. Carrow managed the pro-shop at Wild Oaks Country Club in Quinton for 15 years. He volunteered at St. Mary Magdalen Roman Catholic Church as the Sacristan for 15 years. He was the past president of the Garden State Umpires Association, refereeing Babe Ruth and the Cape May Coast Guard Leagues.Mr. Carrow had been active in Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Church in Bridgeton, and he volunteered with Meals on Wheels.He was an avid bowler and golfer, and was currently a member of the Parish of All Saints in Millville.
Mr. Carrow is survived by his wife Margaret A.;four sons, Michael and wife Tracy of Newfield, Mark Steven of Philadelphia, Dennis J. and wife Patti of Millville, and George A. Jr. and wife Natalie of Texas; two brothers, Samuel of Penns Grove and John and wife Katherine of Elmer; and four grandchildren, Dennis George, Victoria Michelle, Jonathan Michael and Kristen Rae Carrow.He was predeceased by his sister, Bartholomew Hiles.
A funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday in the Parish of All Saints, Buck and Depot streets, Millville. Viewings will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. on Thursday in the Christy Funeral Home, 11 W. Broad St., Millville. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Vineland.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Parish of All Saints, 621 Dock St., Millville; or to HospiceCare of South Jersey, P.O. Box 160, Bridgeton, NJ 08302.
