The Sutherland book spells her name as: Phoebe. The headstone clearly spells her name as: Pheobe. The 1900 Census record spells her name as Pheba (?).
Pheobe's line to Glade Hollow from her father:
Pheobe Counts Joseph Counts (E-789) b 1852 John "Jack" Bunyan Counts (D-156 )& Elizabeth Childress Ezekiel Counts (C-19) b 1805 & Elizabeth Amburgey John Counts (Jr of Cleveland) (B-3) & Margaret Kelly John Counts (Sr of Glade Hollow) A-1 & Mary.
Pheobe's line to Glade Hollow from her mother:
Pheobe Counts Didema Hay Counts Phoebe Counts Hay (D90) & Ambrose Hay John "Jackie Counts (C-12) & Phoebe McReynolds John Counts (Jr of Cleveland) (C-3) & Margaret Kelly John Counts (Sr of Glade Hollow) (A-1) & Mary.
Pheobe's mother, Didema Hay Counts, was a sister of Rebecca Hay Willis, the name of the cemetery wherein Pheobe & Rebecca, were laid to rest. We don't know when this piece of land was given that name. Didema, was also a sister of Ambrose Wilson Counts who married Elizabeth Counts who was the mother of Arthur "Aut" Stewart Counts of Nealy Ridge, Virginia (my grandmother and grandfather).
THE FOLLOWING EXCERPT IS CITED FROM "SOME DESCENDANTS OF JOHN COUNTS OF GLADE HOLLOW":
On 9/9/1856, Abednigo Kiser conveyed to his sisters-in-law, Phoebe Counts Hay and Rachel Counts Hay (D90 & D81), a large boundary of land on Lazarus Branch and Backbone Ridge. About that time, each family established a farm home on separate portions of this land. (Note: Abednigo was married to Phoebe & Rachel Counts' sister, Rebecca (D84).
In August of 2016, my daughter, Rachel, and I came upon this cemetery. We noticed the grave of the young Counts woman and wondered who she was connected to, why she died so young and why she was laid to rest in this cemetery where I didn't see any other Counts' names. It took me a while to piece some of it together but once I did I was able to trace who her parents and grandparents were. I felt that I had solved some "unsolved mystery" and wanted to put her with a family in my mind since it seemed like she was buried there and was all alone. I am still not sure why she was buried here rather than on her parents land. But I know that she wasn't all alone. She was buried in her Aunt's cemetery which had been the land of her grandmother, Phoebe Counts Hay, whom she was named after. I was told by some of her family's descendants that they presume she died from some disease that took a toll on numerous people at that time, perhaps Influenza.
