Daughter of Edmund Jayne and Anna C. Thorn, wife of William Sanford Simpson and mother of William Thorn, Florence Louise and Amy Simpson.

Obituary - Mrs. Amy F. Simpson, 78, former resident of Patchogue and a member of a prominent Patchogue family, died last Thursday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Robert Lamkin, of Brooklyn. She leaves her daughter, and grandson, Robert Thorn Lamkin, and her son, William Thorn Simpson, attorney, former State Senator, and president Republican leader and state committeeman of the Twelfth Assembly district, Kings County.

Mrs. Simpson was born in Patchogue, the daughter of Edmund and Anna Thorn Jayne, both members of family active on Long Island for 200 years. Her father owned the grist mill where part of the Patchogue-Plymouth Mills are now located. Her family were large property owners, owning the Swezey & Newins corner and most of the property on North Main Street from Ocean Avenue to the lace mill and north. Three Patchogue streets, Jennings Avenue, Jayne Avenue and Thorn Street are family names.

Her husband, William S. Simpson, for some years chief of the local fire department, died in 1907.

Mrs. Simpson was formerly a member of the Congregational church here. She lived for many years on Jennings Avenue, and after the death of her husband, moved to Brooklyn, where she has resided for the past 30 years.

Also - Funeral services were to be held today at her home, 8508 10th Avenue, for Mrs. Amy F. Simpson, for 30 years a resident of the Park Slope section and mother of the former State Senator William T. Simpson, Republican leader of the 12th A.D. Mrs. Simpson, who was 78, died Thursday at her residence.

Born in Patchogue, Mrs. Simpson was a descendent of an old Colonial family, her ancestors having lived on Long Island for about 200 years. She was a member of the Park Slope Congregational Church. Surviving, in addition to the former Senator, are a daughter, Mrs. Robert Lamkin, and a grandson, Robert Thorn Lamkin. Burial was to be in Patchogue.

Mrs. Simpson's father was Edmund Jayne, who operated a grist mill on the site of the present lace factory in Patchogue. Her mother was Mrs. Anna C. Thorn of Manhattan. Both the Jayne and Thorn families date back to Colonial times on Long Island.
