Otto W. Schiele, 77, of Stockton, died Friday, August 25, 1978, at Ridgecrest Health Center in Davenport after an extended illness.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., Sunday, August 27, and 2:00 to 9:00 p.m., Monday, August 28, at Runge Mortuary in Davenport. Memorials may be made to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Durant, in his memory.

Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 29, at Runge Mortuary in Davenport. Burial will be in Durant Cemetery, Durant, Iowa.

Otto William Schiele was born March 30, 1901, in Downey, the son of Gustave and Bethra (Claussen) Schiele. He married Virginia Tamzin McClean on November 28, 1923, in Wheatland. Together they farmed in Scott County, until they retired. He was director of the former REA, now Eastern Iowa Light and Power Company, for 13 years and director and a former member of the Farm Bureau. He was also widely known as a horse and cattle breeder.

Surviving are his wife, Virginia; one daughter, Ruth (Elmer) Spies of Davenport; four sons, Jerold (Arlene) Schiele of Salt City, UT, Charles Schiele of Iowa City, Edwin (Donna) Schiele of Wilton and Richard Schiele of Stockton; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, John (Doris) Schiele of Carol Stream, IL; and one sister-in-law, Alice Meincke of Davenport.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a twin son to Richard, Ronald Schiele in infancy, one grandson, SSGT James Schiele, who was killed in action while serving in the U.S. Army in South Vietnam during the Vietnam War and is listed as MIA and one brother, Richard Schiele.
