Harwood P. Bentley, 69, County Route 15, Sandy Pond, died Saturday, Aug. 27, at the Veterans Hospital, Syracuse.

The funeral was conducted Tuesday, Aug. 30, at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, Pulaski, the Rev. Ivan Greenfield officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Sandy Creek.

Surviving are two sons, Ted M., Parish and Terry L., Lacona; two daughters, Deanna M. Barber, Orwell, and Judy K. Williams, Danville, Calif.; 16 grandchildren, and three great-grand children. He is also survived by one cousin, Gladys Strablo, with whom he resided for many years.

One brother, Frank, died before him.

He was born Dec. 16, 1918, in the Town of Sandy Creek, the son of Isaac and Dora Goodrich Bentley. He attended Sandy Creek District Schools. He was married to Stella Skotnicki in 1939. He has resided in the Town of Sandy Creek all of his life.

He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS L.S.G. 32 from 1943 to 1945. He was employed by various construction companies in Central New York, retiring in 1980. He was a member of VFW Cable Trail Post #8534, Lacona, and was a retired member of the Lacona Fire Department, serving for 28 years.
