Died - Charles Crandall, at his residence southwest of Villisca at 11 p.m., May 25, aged 73 years and 8 days. A native of Rhode Island, he married Mariah Chapman on the 12th day of December, 1837 and to them were born six children, two sons and four daughters, while year a resident of his native state. After this they moved to Connecticut, where there was born to them a seventh child, which died in infancy. their next home was York State and from thence they came to Freeport, Illinois Leaving there, they resided for a while in Missouri and finally they came to Villisca, where they have lived for the last seven years. Of the four daughters, all are married and have homes of their own, one in New York, one in New Mexico, and to in Freeport, Illinois. The sons live in Iowa, one in Atlantic and the other four miles north of Villisca. He was converted and joined the Baptist Church at the age of 22 and lived to honor his profession to the day of his death. He was a friend of Sunday Schools, conducting his children to Sunday School rather than sending them. Honest, Economical, industrious, and faithful, such are the salt of the earth.
