Herbert Edward Hortman, 89, of Summerville, widower of Ruth Marie Hortman, died Thursday, January 8, 2009 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law in Moncks Corner.
Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 24, 2009 at 1 o'clock at James A Dyal Funeral Home Chapel, 303 S. Main Street, Summerville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Charleston FOUNDATION, 3870 Leeds Avenue, Suite 101, North Charleston, SC 29405.

Herbert was born January 3, 1920 in Trenton, NJ, son of the late Jacob S. Hortman and Jessie Mae Hortman. He attended school in Trenton, NJ. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the United States Air Force as a transport pilot. He was a veteran of World War II, Korean Conflict, and Vietnam. He enjoyed doing handy work and working in his woodshop. He attended Cornerstone Baptist Church.

2 Daughters: Carole Fairbanks of Birmingham, AL and Susan J. Mixon (Gerald C.) of Summerville, SC

5 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren
