John William Lamb Sr.
1875 - 1958

John William Lamb, 82, of 730 W. Center, died Sunday at the Utah Valley Hospital.

He was born Aug. 15, 1875, in Salt Lake City, a son of John and Ann Perry Lamb. He came to Provo in 1880 with his parents where his father operated a restaurant. He received his education here, graduating from the old William Rawlings School. He later worked in Park City.

On Nov. 14, 1900, he married Emelia Josephine Gren in Provo. She died Jan. 18, 1940.

He was prominent in mining circles and was president of the East Mining Co. He served on the board of directors in Cardiff and West Toledo Mines, in the Alta Mining District, and the Eureka Lilly in the Tintic District.

Mr. Lamb was a Provo businessman for 50 years. He was a member of the LDS Church, holding the office of a high priest in the Pioneer Ward. He was a charter member of the BPOE No. 849, and an honorary life member for 55 years of the that organization.

Surviving are one son and five daughters, John W. Lamb, Jr., Mrs. William (Naoma) Ferre, Mrs. Russell (Lygia) Tucker, and Mrs. Newell (Zora) Irvine, all of Provo; Mrs. Albert F. (Ila) Law, of Chanute Air Force Base, Ill., and Mrs. O. W. (Millie) Wall, Denver, Colo,; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Mary Mendenhall, Springville; Mrs. J. A. Halliday, Orem; and Mrs. Annie Moore, Provo.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 12 noon in the Berg Drawing Room Chapel, with Bishop Jack Morris of the Pioneer Ward officiating. Friends may call at the mortuary Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m., and Thursday prior to services. Burial will be in the Provo City Cemetery, where graveside rites will be conducted by the BPOE No. 849, with Max Bray, exalted ruler officiating.
