She was born Nov. 30, 1921, in East Liverpool, Ohio, to Everett and Gertrude McKibben Athey Sr. She grew up and lived most of her life in Williamstown and graduated from Williamstown High School. Alta was employed by the former S. S. Kresge Company from 1946 to 1970.
On Jan. 13, 1945, she married John Franklin Wright Jr., who preceded her in death on June 14, 2003.
Alta is survived by a daughter, Patty (Gene) Noe of Franklin Park, N.J.; a grandson, Kevin Noe of Canal Winchester, Ohio; a great-granddaughter, Alyssa Noe, and a great-grandson Hunter Noe, also of Canal Winchester; one brother, Wallace (Willa) Athey of Williamstown; a nephew, Robert Athey, whom she raised in her home; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sisters, Sara Thomas and JoAnn Athey; and two brothers, Everett Athey Jr. and Kenneth Athey.
A very special "thank you" to each and everyone at Harmar Place for the special care and love given to Alta. Also a special "thank you" to her niece, Peggy Thomas Yancey, and a dear friend, Gloria Huffman, both longtime employees of Harmar Place.
At her request, there will be no calling hours and a graveside service will be held on Friday (April 9) at 11 a.m. in the chapel at East Lawn Memorial Park. McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made in Alta's name to the Humane Society of the Ohio Valley, P.O. Box 5, Marietta, Ohio 45750, for the love of her pets.
