John Ray Walter, Galesburg Chapel 65, formerly of 123 N. D St., Monmouth, IL died 7:15 PM Saturday October 8, 2005 at Heartland Health Care Center in Galesburg.
He was born June 1, 1940 in Jacksonville, IL to John R. and Mary Ray Walter.
Surviving is one son, John David Walter of Las Vegas, NV, one daughter, Laura Lizabeth Walter of Shorewood, IL, two sisters, Beth Bivens and Mary Lou Flater of Galesburg.
He was the supervisor of fleet operation for the United States Post Office for 25 years in Galesburg, IL, Madison, WI, Canton, OH and Cleveland, OH. He later became the superintendent of motor vehicles for Warren Achievement Center in Monmouth, IL. He organized the chapter of Gamblers Anonymous in Galesburg and was on the board of the United Way in Warren County. He is a 1958 Galesburg High graduate and attended Western Illinois University in Macomb. He was a United States Army veteran.
Graveside service will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Scott Grulke officiating. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society or Galesburg Humane Society.
