She was born in McClellanville & was the daughter of Thomas C. & Lula Mae Felder Ward.
Mrs. Ashley graduated from McClellanville High School with honors & was an active member of McClellanville United Methodist Church; was a member of United Methodist Women & held several offices in the Womens Circle. She was the retired co-owner, along with her husband, of the McClellanville Seafood Company.
"Miss Frances" was a loving Mother that gave all her energy into loving & raising her children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren. She enjoyed attending to her flowers & welcoming visitors. She always had popsicles for neighborhood children & loved fixing meals for family & friends. She knew the Lord well & lived her life honoring Him. She also enjoyed watching the moon rise over the marsh on quiet cool evenings from her porch.
Surviving are two sons; Robert E. Ashley, Jr of McClellanville, & Col. Michael L. Ashley, US Army, currently serving in support of the 101st Special Air Borne Division in Fort Campbell, KY and three daughters; Frances Buhl of Stone Mountain, GA, Margaret Phillips of Knoxville, TN & Susan Scott of Hickory, NC.; 6 sisters, Betty Hilchey of Summerville, Norma Lighthart, Theresa Penninger & Herma O'Brien all of Charleston, Patsy Richards of Jedburg, & Thedra Robison of Lilburn, GA. & also 11 grandchildren.
