DEATH OF MRS. S. J. WARD.
WIFE OF SHERIFF PASSES AWAY AT BUFFALO, N. Y.
Telegram Containing the Sad Announcement Received in Shreveport Yesterday - Was in Bad Health for Years.
Mrs. S. J. Ward, the wife of Sheriff Ward died at 3:30 o'clock yesterday morning at Buffalo, N. Y., after an illness extending over a long period of time.
The telegram containing the sad announcement was received in this city yesterday morning, and although not totally unexpected by those who knew Mrs. Ward, her demise came with shocking abruptness.
At the bedside were the husband, Sheriff Ward, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ward and daughter Penelope, and C. Q. Moreland.
For the past two years Mrs. Ward had been suffering in ill health. Last spring, accompanied by her husband, she went to Baltimore and Boston where specialists were consulted, but to no avail.
She came back home, but her condition grew rapidly worse, and about three months ago, she went to Buffalo, where she was given the best possible medical attention.
Surviving Mrs. Ward, are her husband and four sons, Marmaduke, S. J., Jr., George Egan and Robert H. Ward. Her daughter, who was the wife of C. Q. Moreland died a number of years ago.
Mrs. Ward was the daughter of Major Robert Hodges of Bossier Point, one of the best known planters in the northern part of Louisiana. Mrs. Ward married Col. Ward shortly after the close of the civil war.
The remains are expected to arrive in Shreveport Saturday, after which the funeral arrangements will be completed.
*Fourteen months after her death, Col. S. J. Ward passed away.
