Herbert E. Newlin, 83, of Scottdale, passed away Monday afternoon, Nov. 25, 2002, at his residence. Herb was born Dec. 9, 1918, IN Sewickley Twp., a son of the late Ralph C. and Pearl Jellison Newlin. He married the former Esther Pritts on Dec. 24, 1944. Herb was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was the former owner and operator of Newlin's City Feed and Hardware Store for 47 years. He was a member of United Church of Christ in Mt. Pleasant and a charter member of the former Scottdale Lions Club. He was also a member of the East Huntingdon Sportsmen's Association and the Ruffs Dale, Gun Club. He was a graduate of South Huntingdon High School, Class of 1936. Herb will be sadly missed by his loving family: his wife of 57 years, Esther Pritts Newlin; two sons, David E. Newlin and wife, Janice, of Brandon, FL, and Donald G. Newlin and wife, Rebecca, of Mt. Pleasant RD3; three grandchildren, David E. Newlin, Heather E. Newlin and Dana A. Newlin; a sister-in-law, Harriet Newlin of Grantsville; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Herb was preceded in death by two sisters, Grace Heltebran and Blanche Hepler; and two brothers, Edward and Wilmer Newlin. Family and friends will be received Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL home, 105 Spring St., Scottdale, 724-887-5300.
