John Earl Brown was born on May 3, 1939, in Norman, the first-born son of Earl Lee Brown and Ethel Attaway-Brown. He died due to complications following open heart surgery May 21, 2011.
John attended schools in Norman and was in the Army and went on active duty when he was 16 years old. After his military service, he returned to Norman and worked at several plumbing companies. He began his career as a truck driver in the '60s and found his true passion being on the road. He worked for the Department of Public Safety, Lake Patrol and was a member of the "Fuzz Tones" band.
John was a free spirit who loved life and people. He never met a stranger and had many friends throughout the United States. It has been said that when John was made, they broke the mold because he is one of a kind. He lived life to the fullest and always said, "If anybody has had more fun than me, I don't know who it would be."
He married Gayle Jean Powell and they had two children. A daughter named Tammy Jean in 1964 and a son named William Courtney in 1969.
In 1979, he married his second wife Paula Joyce Grissom. They had a daughter named Paula Sherea. Paula married and had twins, Brock and Macy Miller
He was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Ethel; grandparents Lee and Stella Brown and Thomas and Emma Attaway; and his brother, Paul Brown.
He is survived by his wife, Paula Joyce Brown; daughter, Tammy Britnell, son Courtney Brown and daughter Paula Miller. Grandchildren Misty Britnell, Carson Brown, Addison Brown, Brock Miller and Macy Miller; two sisters, Lela Dunlap and Pat Hogan and husband Ernest; brother, Courtney Brown and wife Martha; A cousin Mary Perrin Hatley who was like a sister to him and her husband Pat Hatley who spoke at the funeral. Also many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
